Beirut, 27th July 2000 Intervention
of H.E. the Ambassador of Greece
Mr. George Gabrielides
Mr. Prime Minister as you know Greece has strong and
long standing ties of friendship mutual confidence and cooperation with
Lebanon. My country always tried either within the framework
of the European Union or on a bilateral basis to respond positively whenever
Lebanon is in need. We have done it in many occasions in the past and we
are ready to do it again in the future. Greece shall examine, study very
carefully together with its partners of the European Union the different
development plans presented by the Lebanese side. We shall try to help Lebanon in its efforts for the economic and social
development of the south. An important role in this field could be played
by non-governmental organizations.
Within this context I am happy to announce that
Greece is co-financing with the European Union the construction and equipment
of one pediatric clinic and one gynecological clinic in Marjeoun that is in the area that was under occupation. Mr. Prime minister I would like to wish for the
government of Lebanon all possible success for the development and
reconstruction of the south as well as for the success of this conference. |
